I met my dear friend Eric years ago in college when we both studied fashion and portrait photography in Paris, France. We were much younger then and had no idea what was in store for us. Eric had such a kind light about him and over the years we have stayed in touch, assisting one another on various wedding shoots and meeting up for a coffee. It is so important as a photographer to have that network of photographer friends who understands what you are going through.
When Eric told me he was seeing someone and that they were living together I knew I had to meet him, I met Andrew and was blown away at how he and Eric just fit perfectly together.Flash forward to the pandemic, this has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging and dark times I can recall, so I am clinging to any positivity I can find. Eric and Andrew were recently engaged and I could not have been happier for them. I knew a little bit about the struggles they had gone through as a couple mostly due to outside forces and judgements and felt compelled to capture their love. I was honored when Eric agreed to let me photograph them, and as I sat there with eyes open, witnessing my dear friend and his fiance gaze into each others eyes I was reminded of why I love being a photographer…. people let me into their lives at such vulnerable moment. It takes trust, love, and walls to come down in order to connect with the people on the other side of my lens. I feel so lucky to be able to stop time with those who will let me, and I feel a great deal of purpose in that journey.
Enjoy some of my favorite captures from my session with Eric and Andrew. You can also follow along with Eric and Andrew’s adventures together at their instagram @outtotry .
