7 Things to do after you get engaged!

Congratulations! You and your partner have hit a huge milestone in your relationship and I hope you are savoring it. But what comes after can be a bit daunting on where to begin! Here are 7 things I found to be very helpful in making the most of your engagement.

1.ENJOY YOUR ENGAGEMENT!

You are only engaged once in your life (or at least that is the goal) so enjoy it! Try to stay in the moment for a little while after you get engaged. Maybe even wait a couple days to tell people so you can have some quiet days of love with your future spouse. You can celebrate by having a nice dinner in, or going on a little getaway. Whatever you decide be present in this amazingly joyful moment!

2. INSURE YOUR RING

It may not be the most romantic part of the process but you just got this amazing ring that you are not used to wearing on your finger… so it is always good to get it insured. A lot of times you can just add it to your renters insurance. Trust me you will feel much better once that is taken care of.

3.CELEBRATE WITH LOVED ONES

We are still very much in a global pandemic so you can not throw a big engagement party right now. That does not mean you can not celebrate with friends and family though. You can easily throw together a zoom party where people can join and get a glimpse of your new bling! Or if you are more low key maybe you just have a small outdoor picnic with immediate family. It is such a fun moment to let your loved ones celebrate you and you should try to soak that up as much as you can.

4.DAY DREAM WITH YOUR HONEY AND SET A DATE.

Start thinking about what kind of wedding you and your fiance really want but have fun with it. What are some things you could not do without and start there. Maybe you want to splurge on wedding flowers, and maybe your partner wants the food to be incredible. Start there and decide if you envision a small micro wedding or elopement… which is very on trend right now because you can have a safer wedding and keep it intimate. Or maybe you want to wait a year or so and aim for the larger bash. You can also have a couple dates in mind for your wedding. That way you can tell your potential wedding vendors.

5.SET A BUDGET

Okay this part can be a bit stressful but you know what? If you can discuss these things as a couple and get real with yourselves about the kind of money you are willing to spend this will put so much of the wedding planning into perspective. Also it is a good test as a couple because these are things you will have to talk about many times as a married couple.

6.CONTACT WEDDING VENDORS

The first 3 wedding vendors you should research and get in touch with are :

1. Wedding planner / Coordinator

2. Venue / location

3. Photographer

These three are most important because they book up at least a year prior to a wedding date. So you want to make sure they are available on your date and reach out as soon as possible.

7. TAKE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS

This one is one of my personal favorites and here’s why…. Engagement photos are such a great way to celebrate this special chapter! Until this moment the wedding might not seem real, but I guarantee you when you dress up to take your engagement photos it will hit you that YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED! Other good reasons to take engagement photos are you get to practice in front of the camera, you will get to know your wedding photographer which will only make you more relaxed on your wedding day, you will have fresh photos for your wedding website and save the dates, and invitations Do not skip this part, trust me it is a lot of fun!

I hope these tips to get you started on what to do after you get engaged helps you! It is such a wonderful time in your life and you deserve it all. Cheers to love my dears and please reach out if you have any questions or are interested in my wedding photography services!
